Burnout has become a defining challenge of the modern workplace. In 2019, the
World Health Organization formally recognized burnout as an occupational phenomenon characterized by “feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion; increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job; and reduced professional efficacy.” As organizations strive to boost productivity and engagement, unaddressed burnout can erode employee well-being, strain team dynamics and drive costly turnover.
